Question 1 - In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Developed and/or Challenged in My Products
Music Video
Conventions: Stock Characters
In the music videos that I researched, the stock characters always had some sort of visible interaction with other characters in the video. However, I have challenged this by not interacting my main character with others. The only other people in my music video are at the party, these shots are done so that it is unclear who is who.
Conventions: Stock Events
The storyline in my music video repeats itself, to show the main characters lifestyle. This is unlike any of the music videos which I researched. However, I feel this is due to the storyline, and not really challenging or developing the normal stock events. An event which is often used in the music videos of this genre - crime - is not shown in my music video, it could therefore be said that I have challenged the stock events by not including the event of crime in my video.
I have also slightly challenge the stock events, due to the fact that my party scenes do not include my main character. In the two that I researched where there were party scenes, you could see the main character/s going to the party, and then see them at the party. I have shown my main character getting ready, but not specifically shown her at the party.

Conventions: Props
As well as using props that were used in the music videos I researched, I decided to put more props that are stereotypical of youth. For instance I have strewn several CDs across the floor, and popular Rom-Com DVDs. This is not challenging the props found in this genre, just developing them. I used a lot more props than were seen in the music videos I researched, but that was to fit my storyline.
Conventions: Costumes
I have not really developed or challenged the convention of costumes from those I found in my research.
Conventions: Settings
I have not really developed or challenged the convention of settings from those I found in my research.
Codes: Camera Shot/Angle/Movement
I have not really developed my types of camera shots/movement from those which I found in the music videos which I researched. I have used some still shots, and some movement ones. I also have a range of close/mid/long range shots.
Codes: Editing
Unlike the music videos which I researched, I have used some slightly more obvious editing, for instance towards the end of the video, when the transitions become blurred. I did this on purpose to make it seem as though she was dizzy/tired/drunk. This is similar to what Deadmau5 did in 'Ghosts n' stuff' except he did this using camera movement, not editing.
Codes: Sound
I have done the sound in my music video the same as in the researched ones. I have not challenged or developed this aspect.
Codes: Lighting
Although the lighting in my music video is similar to that in the researched ones, in my party scenes, my strobe (and other) lighting effects are a bit more obvious than in the researched videos.
